All-day breakfast was permanently discontinued in 2020. As of April 2026 it has not returned. If you arrive after the breakfast cutoff, only the regular lunch and dinner menu is available. The egg types explained — this matters more than you think
McDonald’s uses 4 different types of eggs across their breakfast menu. Only the Egg McMuffin uses a freshly cracked Grade A egg cooked on-site. McGriddle, biscuit, and bagel sandwiches come with pre-cooked folded eggs by default. You can upgrade any of these by asking for a “round egg” — but it may cost an extra ~$2 via the app. Asking in person often gets you the upgrade free.

Put a hash brown inside your sandwich
Order a hash brown separately and stuff it inside your biscuit or McGriddle. The crunch and potato flavor transform the sandwich. Costs $1.99 extra. Works especially well with the Sausage Biscuit or Bacon, Egg & Cheese McGriddles.

Arrive right at 10:30 — still order
If you get to the counter or drive-thru speaker before 10:30 AM and place your order, most locations will still fill it even if prep takes a minute past the cutoff. The key is placing the order before the switch, not receiving it before.

Skip syrup on hotcakes — save 160 cal
Hotcakes with syrup = 580 cal. Request no syrup and you drop to ~420 cal. Butter adds another ~35 cal so skipping both gets you to ~385 cal for the 3-pancake stack. Ask for syrup on the side if you want to use a little.

Starting April 21, 2026 the Sausage McMuffin is $1.50 as a spotlight McValue deal — compared to its regular $2.99 price. This is the cheapest sandwich McDonald's has offered in years. Check participating locations in the McDonald's app.

Ask for scrambled eggs on a bagel
The Big Breakfast scrambled eggs (made from liquid eggs cracked on site) are fresher than the folded eggs on bagel sandwiches. Ask staff to substitute scrambled eggs on your bagel sandwich instead of the folded egg. Often done at no charge in person.

Ask for any breakfast sandwich without the bread — just the fillings. An Egg McMuffin without the muffin = ~150 cal and ~3g carbs. A sausage patty + egg without any bread is a fast keto-friendly protein hit for under 200 cal.

Most breakfast meal combos include a small coffee. At $1.09–$1.29 standalone, the coffee is essentially included at no extra cost over buying the sandwich + hash browns separately. A Premium Roast Coffee is 0 calories — best drink to include in a combo.
